Graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Business Administration from Oral Roberts University, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
In 1990 graduated with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) Degree from Humboldt State University, Arcata, California.

Started insurance career in 1979 working for Aetna Life and Casualty in the Sacramento branch office in the underwriting trainee program.
Joined Matsen Insurance Brokers, Inc. in late 1979 and became President/CEO in 1987 until January 2, 2018.
January 11, 2018 started Kompani Risk & Insurance Solutions, Inc. as digital insurance brokerage, licensed in 32 states.
Obtained Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation in 1984, Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation in 1986, Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designation in 1987 and Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation in 1992.
Main focus is in providing risk management solutions for the commercial risk via the internet as an online eBroker & in executing the company’s strategies. Currently the CEO of Matsen Insurance Brokers and is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the company.
1998 – Expert Witness in a professional liability claim against a local agent. Prepared for Defense Counsel an analysis of facts of the case with regards to what is prudent and customary for a broker in this situation. Defense Counsel prevailed on behalf of the defendant.
1999 – Expert Witness in a civil dispute as to valuation of an agency’s “book” of business. Prepared for Defense Counsel an analysis of facts of the case with regards to what is prudent and customary for a broker in this situation. Defense Counsel prevailed on behalf of the defendant.
2006 – Past Member partner of APPEX – Agency Peak Performance EXchange (“APPEX”) was formed by Marsh·Berry to establish a forum for communication among Partner agencies (APPEX Partners) and to provide a means of influencing the value or their businesses. Partnership enables agencies to access the full array of financial consulting talent inherent in the Marsh·Berry organization and to exchange successful operating strategies with their peers. Marsh·Berry is the largest Independent Agency consulting firm in the United States.
ARM – Associate in Risk Management
The five-course program deals with identification and evaluation of loss exposures, analysis of risk control and financing techniques for each exposure, selection of the most effective risk management alternatives, and ways to implement and monitor selected risk control and risk financing techniques.

This professional insurance education program is designed for experienced insurance practitioners.
